In the summer, temperatures soared above one hundred degrees. They have rented an apartment together in a two story brownstone located near campus, and they paid the landlord a security deposit and the last month’s rent. Since at least 2011, the video has been subject to scrutiny over its origins and creation on many online forums providing different theories (examples here and here ). Some point to awkward lip syncing or tones of voice, others to the large font used for the date and timestamps, and some hint the men in the video may be actors (at the very end the speaker looks straight at the camera awkwardly). The video may have been inspired by the book “The God Gene: How Faith Is Hardwired into Our Genes” by Dr Dean Hamer ( here ). The book discusses how “a variation in the VMAT2 gene plays a role in one's openness to spiritual experiences” ( here, here ). VMAT2 is the scientific name for “Vesicular monoamine transporter 2”, a protein that carries neurotransmitters such as dopamine, encoded in humans by the SLC18A2 gene ( here ).
